At least 1,165 people were killed in violent attacks in the northwestern region of Nigeria between January and August of this year, according to a survey.

No less than 113 people have also been abducted in the area in the last eight months, as reported by Nigeria Mourns, a non-governmental organization.

 

In its latest study, a group that monitors instances of violent killings across the nation estimated that the cases in the Northwest were registered in seven states.

The organization uses newspaper accounts, police and family sources to collect their findings.

The latest report shows that Kaduna, Katsina and Zamfara have reported the highest number of killings in six months.

The study presented the figure for each of the seven States as follows:

 

Kaduna – 468, Katsina – 376, Zamfar – 204, Sokoto – 96, Kano – 10, Jigawa – 10 and Kebbi – 1. The report states that 1,068 people were killed by alleged armed bandits, 5 by Boko Haram / ISWAP, 73 by armed herdsmen, 6 by isolated attacks and 13 by extrajudicial killings.

The report also accounted for monthly abductions in the area.
