Protesters from the Niger State Chapter of the People's Democratic Party on Wednesday stormed the PDP Legacy House in Maitama Abuja, where the PDP National Working Committee is meeting, to demand the sacking of the party's National Secretary of Finance, Abdullah Maibasira.

The protesters accused Maibasira of colluding with the All Progressives Congress-led state government to undermine the party. One of the protesters, who identified himself as Yahuza HussainI, a member of the PDP from Minna Local Government, told the PUNCH that the protest was organized to draw the attention of the national body to the alleged anti-party activity of the NWC member, who claimed to have worked with a former PDP leader in the state.

Hussaini said, "We are here to tell our party leaders that we can not continue to allow Maibasira and the former Speaker of the Niger State Assembly, Tanko Bego, to hand over our party to the government of the APC in Niger.

"The leader of the PDP that we know in Niger is former Governor Babangida Aliy Talban Minna, who remained in the PDP, even when they left and came back."

The protesters, who conducted themselves peacefully, said they were prepared to wait until the NWC meeting ended with a petition to the party leadership. It was not clear whether those accused were around at the time of filing this report.
