Paul Rusesabagina, the film hero 'Hotel Rwanda,' who was arrested earlier this week to face charges of terror, murder and arson, says he's choosing his defense team to prove his innocence.

Mr Rusesabagina said from his police cell in an exclusive interview with The EastAfrican that he has been handled "with dignity" so far, and expects justice and a fair trial in Rwanda.

"I was handled with respect. I had pasta last night and, today, I had porridge. I have my medicine because I'm going with my blood pressure pills and a cardiovascular disease, "he said, adding that two doctors visited him on Thursday.

Mr Rusesabagina is being held at Remera Metropolitan Police Station where a bed, a mattress and a mosquito net are given for him.

His cell also has a small designed bathroom with accessories. He was sitting for the interview on a small chair and wearing a black suit and a no tie cream shirt and a face mask. Mr Rusesabagina spoke calmly and in a relaxed tone after conceding permission for an on-the-record interview.
