The robbers allegedly carted out money in various currencies and denominations. Meanwhile, some of the armed robbers who invaded MKO 's home, Abiola, have been arrested by police.

A police source confirming the arrest said "seven (7) are being arrested". It was arranged that the suspects arrested were handed over to police Special Anti-Robbery Unit, SARS.

Moments after the intermittent shooting began, Nigerian Army operatives and police anti-robbery squad got to the scene.

Chief Moshood Olawale Abiola Kashimawo, also known as M. K. O. Abiola was a Nigerian businessman, Egba clan publisher, politician, and aristocrat. He is the Yorubaland Aare Ona Kankafo XIV.

MKO Abiola ran for the presidency in 1993 for which preceding military president Ibrahim Babangida annulled the election results because of charges that they were corrupt and unjust. On 6 June 2018, Abiola was awarded the GCFR posthumously by President Muhammadu Buhari and the day for democracy in Nigeria was changed to 12 June.

Abiola was Babangida's close friend, and is believed to have assisted the coming to power of Babangida.

The support of Abiola in the presidential election in June 1993 cut through geo-political zones and religious divides among a few politicians to achieve such a spread during his tenure. By the time he died he had become an unlikely icon of democracy
