The World Health Organization (WHO) Cautions African governments

On Thursday, 2nd of July, The World Health Organization (WHO) cautioned African governments to take effective measures to mitigate the risk of a surge in COVID-19 infections as a result of the commercial flight resumptions.


Dr. Matshidiso Moeti, Regional Director for Africa said in a statement, “Air travel is essential to the country’s economic health,” “We cannot, however, let our guards down, as we take to the skies, our new normal demands measures that are stringent to curtail the spread of the pandemic”.


According to the WHO, across the continent, several African countries such as Zambia, Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon, and Tanzania, has commenced commercial flights.


The reopening of commercial flights will help facilitate the movement of essential supplies such as personal protective equipment (PPEs), testing kits as well as other forms of essential health commodities to communities in dire need of these supplies.
