The Nigerian Federal Government says it isn’t planning on resuming international flight operations for now.

According to the nations Aviation Minister, Hadi Sirika, only domestic flights will commence with effect from July 8 with Lagos and Abuja airports currently prepped for opening on the said date. He also noted that four other airports namely Port Harcourt, Kano, Maiduguri and Owerri would follow suit with effect from July 11 while the rest of the airports will be opened effective July 15. The minister pleaded for forbearance from Nigerians and others within the country, and gave an assurance that the preventive protocols listed out by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and the World Health Organisation will be followed accordingly starting from passenger facilitation down to flight operations.

Nigeria’s airspace and airports have remained  shutdown to flight operations since March 2020 in order to curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, only essential flights such as evacuation and movement of medical supplies have been permitted in the course of this period.
