Nigerians who have been stranded in South Africa as a result of the lockdown due to the covid-19 pandemic since March would be evacuated from South Africa to Nigeria.

Some of the affected persons went to South Africa for their businesses, official duties, while some are students on research programs.

The Nigeria Consul General Godwin Adams stated that the Federal government of Nigeria is ready to evacuate 167 Nigerians from South Africa on Thursday, June 25. The flight will depart South Africa to Abuja first before heading to Lagos to drop the Lagos passengers.

Considering the fact that Nigeria and South Africa's airports are closed to international travel, the special flight was approved by the government of both countries on a charter basis and Air Peace Airways was approved by the federal government of Nigeria to convey them.

However, he stated that all the Nigerian passengers had tested negative to the corona virus before boarding, which is in line with the revised protocol on covid-19.
