The Nigerian Federal Government has summoned the Chargè d’ Affaires of the High Commission of Ghana to Nigeria, Ms Iva Denoo, over the demolition of the Nigerian Embassy in Ghana.

Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, disclosed this today, pointing out that Nigeria has instructed the ambassador to urgently explain the recent attack on the country’s High Commission in Accra, the Ghanaian capital. Ghanaian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, claim that Unidentified armed men were reported to have attacked the property at about 10:30pm on Friday and demolished sections of the building currently under construction and intended to serve as lodging for diplomats visiting the High Commission. The Ghanaian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has also expressed regrets over the incident, reassuring the Diplomatic community in Ghana and the Nigerian High Commission that Ghana is still a law-abiding country that upholds the principle of the rule of law.

The Ghanaian government on its part has thus opened an investigation to resolve the matter and bring the culprits to book. It has also beefed-up security within and around the facility in order to keep the situation under control.
