Kenya emerges winner of the United Nations (UN) Security Council seat after defeating Djibouti in the second round of voting, following the first phase, which saw the victory of Nairobi as insufficient to win the UN seat.

Out of a total of 191 countries who cast their ballots, Kenya scored one hundred and twenty-nine (129) lashing Djibouti, who scored a vote of sixty-two (62).
This means that after 23 years, Nairobi, from January 2021. can return to the United Nations (UN) organs, where the country will become part of primary decisions regarding global security and peace. Earlier on Wednesday, Norway, Mexico, India, and Ireland were selected.

Kenya following its victory will be seated at the iconic horseshoe-shaped table alongside Ireland, India, Norway, and Mexico, come January, bringing the figures to a total of fifteen countries, seated at the Security Council.

Kenya will be involved in decision-making phases, some of which include sanctions, electing judges of the international court of justice, and authorization of the use of force to preserve peace, working alongside Russia, France, China, United Kingdom, and the United States (US) (the five permanent members with veto powers) to impose global peace and security.

Through the end of 2021, Grenadines, Tunisia, Estonia, Niger, and saint Vincent will remain in the council.
