An infinite number of individuals in Kenya’s capital Nairobi carried out a non-violent demonstration yesterday against police brutality in the country. Parading in numbers through the Mathare slums, demanding justice for their loved ones, colleagues, close friends, and all other victims of extrajudicial killings.

Over 15 individuals have been unlawfully killed by the police force, while enforcing COVID-19 lockdown and curfew, according to Independent Policing Oversight Authority of Kenya.

One of the protesters by name Rebecca emphasized the importance of the parade, “it is necessary to stand tall in solidarity with individuals who have been victimized by the police authorities, both nationally and internationally, and its atrocious outcome. It is impossible for us to have a prosperous, peaceful, existence with a police state, period”.

“We are extremely sick and tired of the brutalities, we demand justice for every individual in Kenya, and around the world, black lives matter. We employ the government to hear our cry and award us the justice we deserve. Violence is not the answer, no one wants to be murdered or beaten”, said another protester Beatrice.

Kenya police authorities are most times accused of making use of unnecessary excessive force and carrying out unlawful killings of its citizens, most especially in a poor neighborhood.
