The upper house speaker of Ethiopia, Keria Ibrahim has officially resigned following a protest against an unforeseen postponement of a scheduled election in the Horn of Africa country, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Indeed a growing tension between the government and her party.

Keria Ibrahim is also a top-ranked official, in one of Ethiopia's key political parties termed, “Tigray peoples Liberation Front (TPLF)”, who are against the postponement. The regional election as well as the parliament have been scheduled for the month of August, just ahead of incumbent Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's term in September. No new date has however been scheduled.

Ethiopia upper house speaker, Keria Ibrahim further placed accusations on the Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's government, for eradicating the sovereign rights, without proper explanation.

Last month, the Tigray peoples Liberation Front (TPLF), made threats to arrange polls in insubordination of the adjournment, theoretically setting the region on a collision course with the federal government.
