In a search for a better standard of living and as a result of the failure of African leaders, many African youths have decided to seek greener pastures abroad. Many Africans have embarked on a daredevil journey across the Sahara to Europe in search of a better life. While many lost their lives in the process, several others have been successful. Due to rapid developments, the middle east has been a destination for migrant workers across the globe. What is it like being an African in the middle east, and what kind of jobs are available for Africans in the middle east?

There are many reasons people come to the middle east. It could be for tourism, business, study, or work. Irrespective of why one chooses to be in the GCC, there are many reasons to either love or hate the place. The problem with most Africans, who decide to come to the GCC is they either come through and illegal process or they, unfortunately, got work with the wrong people.

At one time or the other, we must have come across trending videos of African ladies in the GCC crying and seeking for help to be repatriated home. Most of the time, these are people who either migrated to the middle east wrongly or via criminal agents who extort the system for financial gains.

Working in the middle east can be a rewarding adventure if one migrates legally. There are systems in place for legal immigration to the middle east, and one of them is to come through an employer. The challenge is many people come to the middle east through an agency who because of greed do not tell them the truth and the nature of the jobs they will be doing. For example, imagine a Nurse who resigned from her position in a bid to take up another nursing job in the middle east only to find out on arrival that she will be working as a housemaid.

Another challenge in the middle east is the issue of Africans being employed in certain kinds of jobs like driving and security (for African men), housemaid, and cleaners for (African ladies). Although a lot of Africans have good jobs, most Africans are not being given a chance to prove their worth nor work in their professional field. However, northern Africans have been seen in high ranking positions, and that is inevitable due to the long-existing relationship between Arabs and North Africans.

In conclusion, if you must come to the middle east for work, it is advised to enter the right way. Verify and research the company you are coming to work. For those who will be taking up domestic jobs as house helps. Report to your embassy as soon as you arrive and identify with any organization associated with your country. These will help in case you have any problem with your employer.
