The government of Lagos state in Nigeria has sounded a clear warning to the public that it will be left with no other choice but to revert to a full lockdown if Lagosian’s continue to flout public health guidelines as regards the Covid-19 pandemic. The government has noted that in just a week of easing the lockdown, there has been a blunt refusal to adhere to the earlier announced health guidelines—an act that could nullify the government’s effort to contain the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

According to a tweet posted on the official twitter handle of the Lagos state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governor was quoted as saying that As a government elected to uphold the safety and security of its citizens, of which includes health security, if it doesn’t see an improvement in adherence towards the guidelines that govern public health in the next couple of days, it will not hesitate to review the previous terms of easing the Covid-19 lockdown.

The Governor didn’t hide his displeasure towards a near-total flouting of safety guidelines by the public, especially when it comes to social distancing. The state has witnessed the number of confirmed cases within its boundaries rise from 1,107 to 1,764 in just 6 days, a sharp increase of over 59%, which makes it the highest weekly increase in the state since the index case was discovered earlier this year.
